Background Information

Science and Technology Cooperation between the Department of Science and Technology of the Republic of India and the Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology is implemented through the Indo Brazil Science Council as per the Inter Governmental Scientific and Technical Cooperation Agreement concluded between Indian Government and Brazil Government in 1985. The nodal agency for implementation of the S&T Cooperation Agreement are the Department of Science and Technology, GOI and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences/ Ministry of Science and Technology of Brazil. The Indo Brazil Science Council has met 3 times in last 2 years to work out cooperation modalities between the two sides.

Cooperation activities:-

Cooperation activities include the following:-

• Exchange of senior and junior scientists/researchers for development of joint projects
• Joint R&D Project
• Joint R&D Workshops, seminars/symposia
• Lectures by Eminent Scientists from the two sides

Subject Areas of Cooperation

To begin with, the cooperation activities will be open in the following 7 broad areas:-

1. Molecular Sciences and materials;
2. Material sciences and engineering including nano sciences;
3. Biomedical sciences and biotechnology;
4. Physical sciences and mathematics;
5. Computer sciences and mathematics;
6. Ocean and marine sciences and Technology; and
7. Bio Resources for Energy.

The joint call for proposals between the two sides is likely to be issued shortly.
