The cooperative programmes are implemented under Indo-German agreement on “Cooperation in Scientific Research and Technological Development”, signed in 1974 with DST and the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) as the nodal agencies for overall coordination. Indo-German Committee on S&T was established in 1994 to promote the implementation of all the arrangements; jointly review the activities; consider major issues and suggest measures for enhancement of cooperation. So far 6 meetings of Joint Committee on S&T have taken place and 7th Meeting is scheduled in 1st quarter of 2008 in Germany.

Indo-German S&T activities are implemented under various special arrangements within the umbrella agreement by different S&T agencies like Indian DST, DBT, CSIR, ICMR, DAE, DoS, INSA etc with German BMBF, DLR, DAAD, DFG, Max Planck Society, Fraunhofer Society, Committee for the meeting of Nobel Laureates and Students in Lindau etc.
